What IAVE is
CAPUFE’s official IAVE portal describes TAG IAVE as a device you place on the vehicle so the plaza can charge automatically as you pass. The same page says the tag speeds booths without cash, and that you can check your balance and invoice crossings online.
CAPUFE’s income-procedures manual defines IAVE as Identificación Automática Vehicular. A TAG is the portable electronic payment device the plaza readers use. This site does not invent a device price, a minimum top-up, or a monthly fee — those figures, when they exist, are set on the official portal, not here.
How to get and activate a TAG
The official portal says you can buy a TAG IAVE at authorized points, service desks, and digital channels defined by CAPUFE. It also offers online purchase and recharge from the same site.
To activate a tag after you have it, CAPUFE’s FAQ on that portal is: create an account, open Devices, then Add device. Enter the first eight numbers of the TAG, make an initial recharge, and place it on the windshield. The portal points to its own Guía IAVE for the placement steps. MexicoTolls does not sell or ship tags.
Prepaid, postpaid, and the plaza
CAPUFE’s procedures manual names two account modes. Prepago IAVE is a deposit you add on the IAVE web portal before you use the roads. Pospago IAVE links a bank credit or debit card to the IAVE account so each plaza crossing is charged to that card. This page does not quote a required balance or a card hold.
The official FAQ: the charge is taken automatically when you use a compatible lane with the device correctly installed and with available balance. Coverage is not every road in Mexico — it depends on compatible highways, bridges, and concessions. Check the coverage section on the IAVE portal before a trip. The portal also notes that a TAG IAVE can be used on segments that are compatible with other telepeaje systems; it does not name those other brands here, and neither do we.
The official app, and what this site does not do
CAPUFE lists an IAVE app for balance and movements, recharge, recent operations, crossing history, and invoices. User attention on the official portal is iave@capufe.gob.mx and the published phone lines 777 3292 119 and 800 7104 283.
